Lucky Ladies

Lucky Ladies is a relatively new (a few years old) side bet that pays off on any player two-card hand of 20. Following is the payoff table used in the charts in this section:

Payoff

Unsuited 20

4:1

Suited 20

9:1

Matched 20 (same rank and suit)

19:1

Two Queen of Hearts

125:1

Two Queen of Hearts and dealer BJ

1,000:1

Now, let us look at the Lucky Ladies side bet using standard Hi-Lo as the card counting strategy. The chart below provides the advantage at each true count. First the good news. Although LL has an outrageous 25% house edge at a true count of zero, the advantage changes dramatically as the count changes. This chart plots the advantage by true count. We can see that the advantage turns positive at true count +7 and continues to increase substantially above that. So, if we make the side bet only with a true count of +7 or higher, we gain a theoretical advantage and “beat” the side bet. So far, so good.
