Software Counting Drills

This section deals with Casino Vérité Blackjack drills. First, we need to make certain that we have the correct strategy selected. From the main menu, select Strategies, then Playing Strategies Simple. You should have the REKO strategy selected in the QFIT/Norm Wattenberger folder. Click OK to exit. Now select Tools, then CVDrills. Then click on Counting Drills.

As indicated by the name, these drills help you practice keeping the count. The Counting drills are listed in the upper left of the setup screen. There are a lot of drills and options, only a few of which I will discuss here.

Quick Count Drill

We start with the Quick Count drill. This is the only drill that contains no tests. It merely flashes the cards as you count them. Set the number of decks and try out the default settings first by clicking Launch. You will see the cards dealt slowly one at a time and can click Peek to see the count at any time. With one deck, your count should start at -1 and end at +3. Returning back to the setup screen, you can change the deal speed, raise the number of decks, and use the # Cards, Orientation and Placement options to raise the difficulty level. You can use the Bias option to force the count very high or low. Many counters have difficulty with a count that goes negative quickly. Because REKO has more cards with positive tag values than negative tag values, the count will always be higher at the end. If you wish, you can set it to leave 1 or 2 cards at the end and test yourself on the cards that should be left. Depending on the number of decks, following is a table of Initial Running Counts and the correct ending counts. Note: Many players stick to one specific number of decks.
