Side Count Handling

Ace Side Count - If this field is checked, then a side count of Aces will be kept in addition to your primary count. You should not set this field unless you have read the instructions for counting Aces included with the strategy that you are using. The use of this side count and the actions taken by CV depend on whether your primary count counts an Ace as a high card or counts an Ace as zero. These two cases are discussed separately here:

Aces count as zero - Ace neutral strategies include Hi-Opt I, Hi-Opt II, Omega II, Uston APC, DHM, Expert and Revere Advanced Plus-Minus. If you are using any of these systems, the true count is quite accurate for strategy purposes, but less accurate for betting purposes. If you have requested an Ace side count and the Ace counts as zero, then CV will adjust the true count as follows:

Calculate the number of excess Aces (may be negative) in the remaining cards

Multiply the number of excess Aces by the absolute value of the point count value assigned by the current strategy to Ten-value cards

Temporarily add the result to the running count

Recalculate the true count according to the current strategy's instructions for betting purposes only

Aces counted in high group - Strategies that count Aces as high cards include Wong High-Low, Wong Halves, Red Seven, Zen Count, Braun/Thorp Plus-Minus, and Revere Point Count. Note: Setting this field in this case requires a different set of strategy tables. Therefore, this field is automatically set according to the selected strategy when the Ace is counted as non-zero. You cannot change the setting in this case. If you have requested an Ace side count and the Ace counts as non-zero, then CV will adjust the true count as follows:

Calculate the number of excess Aces (may be negative) in the remaining cards

Multiply the number of excess Aces by the absolute value of the point count value assigned by the current strategy to Ten-value cards

Temporarily subtract the result from the running count

Recalculate the true count according to the current strategy's instructions for strategy decision purposes only

Temporarily subtract double the result from the running count

If you have not also checked Side Count of Tens, then recalculate the true count according to the current strategy's instructions for Insurance purposes only

CV will use the adjusted true counts for reporting strategy errors for all play including Insurance and Bust Out. The adjusted counts will also be displayed by the PEEK menu function on the main table, the PEEK button on the Card Counting Drill and will be used in checking decisions in the Flash Card Drill. Also, the other players will keep an Ace side count in Tournament mode if this option is selected.

Ten (Insurance) Side Count - If this field is checked, then a side count of Tens will be kept in addition to your primary count. A side count of Tens for insurance decision purposes is valid with any strategy. If this feature is selected, then a side count of Tens will be kept according to the instructions in Stanford Wong's Professional Blackjack. The Ten count will be used for reporting strategy errors for Insurance and Bust Out.

If you do manage to successfully keep a primary count and Ace and Ten side counts and play accordingly, you might consider giving up Blackjack and turning your efforts toward curing Cancer.
