In Volume I, we saw the table conditions that currently exist in the U.S. Now, let us look in more detail at the effects of these conditions. Many variables affect results. The major variables are the counting strategy, penetration, bet spread, decks, rules, and unit size. The next 58 pages provide tables that provide the SCORE, unit size, and win rate for numerous common variables in the below format:

Ø Two pages are provided for each combination of decks and rules. There are 16 combinations of the major rules, S17 (stand vs. hit soft-17), DAS (double after split or not), LS (late surrender or not), and RSA (resplit aces or not). Not every combination of these rules exist in real casinos. Therefore, to save paper I have included only the combinations of decks and rules that the chapter on current conditions suggests are reasonably common, thereby cutting the number of tables in half.
